Orbea bikes – One philosophy, every ride

Behind every Orbea bike is a blend of Basque heritage, technical precision, and a unique employee-owned structure. Founded in the Basque Country, the brand has been building bicycles since the 1920s. Today, the lineup includes road bikes like the Orca, gravel bikes like the Terra, mountain bikes ranging from XC to enduro, lightweight and full-power e-MTBs, and practical touring and city bikes. At the highest level of racing, Lotto–Intermarché competes on the Orca and Orca Aero in the 2026 WorldTour season, while the Orbea Factory Team is a regular contender at events like the Cape Epic. At BIKE24, you'll find the latest models along with expert advice from riders who understand the sport.

Employee-owned – The Orbea approach

Orbea is one of the few major bicycle brands still owned by its employees. Founded in 1840 in Eibar in Spain's Basque Country, the company began building bicycles in the 1920s and became part of the Mondragón Cooperative Corporation in the late 1960s. That means Orbea employees are also co-owners, sharing both responsibility and success. Much of the engineering and design work takes place in Mallabia, where many Orbea bikes are developed. Carbon frames are manufactured internationally to Orbea's specifications, while aluminum frames are produced partly in Spain and Portugal. Painting and final assembly remain largely in the Basque Country. Every Orbea bike reflects this combination of heritage, craftsmanship, and racing ambition.

Why riders choose Orbea

Here's what sets Orbea apart:

  • Employee-owned since the 1960s: Many models are developed and assembled in Mallabia in Spain's Basque Country.
  • Proven at the WorldTour level: Lotto–Intermarché races the Orca and Orca Aero in the 2026 season.
  • OMX and OMR carbon construction: Size-specific layups deliver a consistent ride feel across the entire size range.
  • Lifetime frame warranty: Available after registering your bike with Orbea.

The Orbea lineup – From road bikes to e-MTBs

From road racing and gravel adventures to trail riding and daily commuting, Orbea builds bikes for every type of rider. Each model is developed for a specific purpose, with dedicated geometry, carefully tuned carbon layups or aluminum construction, and purpose-built components. The mountain bike lineup ranges from XC machines like the Oiz and Alma to the enduro-focused Rallon. On the road, the lightweight Orca, aerodynamic Orca Aero, and endurance-oriented Avant cover every riding style. The Terra is built for gravel riding, while Orbea's e-bike lineup includes lightweight Rise models alongside full-power Bosch-equipped bikes such as the Wild. Trekking, city, and kids' bikes round out the range.

Orbea technologies – OMX carbon and the RS concept

Orbea bikes are built around a clear engineering philosophy: use less material where it isn't needed, add stiffness where it matters most, and preserve a natural ride feel – even on e-bikes. OMX and OMR carbon differ in their layup and ride characteristics, the Pure Light concept reduces weight without sacrificing stiffness, and the RS concept gives lightweight e-MTBs a more natural riding experience. Full-power e-MTBs round out the lineup with proven Bosch and Shimano drive systems.

OMX carbon – Top-tier performance for racing

Orbea's OMX carbon layup uses ultra-high-modulus carbon fibers to maximize stiffness while keeping weight to a minimum. The current Orca frame weighs just 745 grams. Orbea achieves this through reduced carbon overlap and carefully shaped tube junctions that minimize excess resin. OMX is used in the flagship road, XC, and e-MTB platforms, delivering maximum stiffness per gram – noticeable when accelerating, climbing, and sprinting.

OMR carbon – Comfort and performance in balance

OMR uses a more robust carbon layup that balances weight, stiffness, and long-distance comfort while remaining more accessible in price. Models such as the Orca M30 and Terra M30TEAM deliver true race geometry, while the Oiz M10 and Alma M30 offer full-carbon XC performance. The result is a ride that combines efficiency with the added comfort needed for endurance rides and marathon events.

Pure Light – Built to be lighter

Pure Light is Orbea's design philosophy for its lightest bikes. Minimalist seat clamps, optimized tube profiles, and reduced carbon overlap all contribute to lower weight. On the latest Orca, that attention to detail helps bring complete bike weight down to as little as 6.7 kg, depending on the build. The new OC-SH-RA10 cockpit also features fully integrated cable routing, saving approximately 40 grams compared to the previous two-piece design while reducing frontal area.

Size-specific carbon layups

To ensure a size 50 frame rides like a size 60 frame, Orbea adjusts the carbon layup for every frame size. Larger frames generally require more material to maintain stiffness, while smaller frames require less to avoid feeling overly harsh. The result is a consistent stiffness-to-weight ratio across the entire size range. Whether you ride an XS or an XXL, the bike feels purpose-built rather than like a scaled-up compromise.

RS concept – Natural assistance for lightweight e-MTBs

RS (Rider Synergy) is the custom firmware Orbea developed with Shimano for the Rise family. In the Rise SL and Rise LT, the second-generation Shimano EP801 RS motor delivers assistance that feels natural and intuitive. Your pedaling input remains the focus, while the motor provides support in the background. Depending on the model, torque reaches up to 85 Nm. RS mode prioritizes range, while RS+ mode unlocks full power. The result is an e-MTB that feels closer to a traditional mountain bike than many full-power alternatives.
